Assess business profitability in Morocco

No one business is the “most profitable” choice for every investor. Before acquiring an activity in Morocco, compare the quality of its revenue, cash needs and risks against your own objectives. Figures in a listing help you shortlist opportunities; they do not settle an investment decision. 1. Define the opportunity you want Buying a company, a business undertaking, a franchise or an equity stake involves different rights and obligations. Describe what you want to operate, your role and your preferred area. Separate sectors you understand from those requiring additional skills or a manager. 2. Compare results over several periods Request dated accounts and available management records with supporting documents. Examine sales, margins, fixed costs, unusual items and cash flow. Check seasonality; one strong month does not represent a year. Allow for spending needed to maintain operations, including staff, upkeep and equipment replacement. 3. Identify dependence and transfer risk An apparently profitable business may rely on one customer, one owner or a lease nearing its end. List important contracts, suppliers, people and permissions. Ask what changes after the sale and which terms need professional confirmation. Historical growth alone is no promise that it will continue. 4. Build comparable scenarios Use written assumptions to prepare cautious, central and favourable scenarios. For each, estimate sales, margin, working capital, investment and any financing repayments. Calculate the trading level needed to cover costs. Apply the same definitions to competing opportunities and record unanswered questions. 5. Make the decision with evidence Consider the work needed to take over, available funding, the risks you can bear and possible exit conditions. Have suitable accounting, legal and technical advisers review the transaction before committing. A public price range does not establish either value or future return.
